I just love it, short story that is growing into a larger work |
|
Strackzinsky said, write, write until you are done. So doing that.
Of course, first draft is absolute trash... but hey, that is what editing is for.
That is why I call First drafts, DRAFT ZERO... and yes I could post some of this crap... trust me, it is crap.
I may, post the crap and then an edited section to show what I mean...
Trust me, crap... it is truly crap.
:-)
Funny I no longer have issues with first drafts being crappy. Once I did... and my production was lousy back then.

1. That's how I wrote my first novel |
|
Started out as a short story without a real ending. Every time I rewrote it, it got longer. In the end, I had an excessively long novel. It ended up being my first published novel - after I cut out a huge amount of dull stuff, at the editor's command.
It's exhilarating when the work takes on a life of its own and grows and grows.
(And I want all you kids to know that I wrote it on a portable manual typewriter with some funky keys. Rewriting meant beginning from the first page and retyping the whole thing, expanding and changing as I went.) (Up hill both ways, in the snow, fighting off packs of wolves.)

2. There are days I want to bring the Olivetti up |

from home...
Portable typewriter... I fear finding a ribbon will be hard.
Anyhoo, imagine when the kids are old enough... what is that?
Yes I learned to type in the typing class, offered to mostly young women, in Junior High. The boys were offered the first classes in computers...because women were not good enough for 'puters.
Funny thing, one of those boys, I met him somewhat recently, could not do a damn thing with his computer... I can work and am fluent in three Operating System.
:-)
That to me is hysterically funny. Oh and I can type. Many of these guys cannot.

3. I was a heck of a typist on the old manual machine |
|
But I much prefer the computer.

4. I typed so many school papers on that thing |
|
fingers hurt.
Just from the memories.
I love the grammar and spell checker though... remember the correction fluid? MESSY.
The corrector tape was not messy but never quite worked as advertised.

5. Correction fluid was awful |
|
But you're right, at least it worked, unlike the tape.
