these days I find myself doing extensive notes before I even start writing. Granted, there is a silly reason for that.. I am doing some writing using Quantum Mechanics, entanglement, and what can be described as a modern version of... magic, So the concepts that will go into the short story first need to be firm in my head. Anybody else doing a lot of prewriting even for a short story?

needs plenty of work before it's remotely publishable, I did a certain amount of outlining for. And I think that if I consider this first draft to essentially be a reasonably detailed outline, I'll be better off and will do a better rewrite.
I'm one of those who tends to sit down and write whatever it is straight through.
