1. I still need to do a major rewrite on the novel |
|
I wrote last year.
I've given some thought to doing the rewrite all month long, but it feels like a cheat to do that.

2. I've got a new one in the works. |
|
Got the fragment outline on the first few chapters and am doing research for it. Now we are working on getting the area group together and maybe do a write in or two. Should be fun!

I did find the need to get a rough draft finished in the month was highly motivating, and even though I think what I started is ultimately publishable, that will only happen if I put in a great deal more work.

I'm in. I owe a debt of gratitude to NaNo for peer-pressuring/graph-guilting me into writing the first half of my first novel in '09 and the second half in '10. Got a new one percolating in my brain, and it's gonna come rushing out starting 11/1!

5. I just found out that my sister and her oldest |
|
daughter are both going to do it! I am so psyched for them. I had not told sis before this that I did it last year, and I told her how I felt as if I'd accomplished something important by the end of the month.
Now I'm dithering between actually starting something new and making use of the month to do the rewrite on last year's novel, which currently is simply titled "November Novel".

And I'm quite psyched now. I have a title and a vague idea of what it will be about, and I'll just write away for thirty days.

I've tried writing a historical novel and the FMC(female main character) and MMC have been so dull and boring that I have decided to kill them both off!! Not before they have dreams that are very disturbing and then... Then! I will kill them off again and again in the afterlife! How DARE THEy interfere with this years NaNoWriMo!
Breath. Breath.
So... How are you doing?

What my novel is actually about has morphed significantly since starting. Plotting has always been my weak point. I can think of characters, and a set-up situation, but generally I have no idea where to go from there.
I finally figured out that what I need to do is outline in semi-detail the entire novel, which I did about a week ago. Now I just need to start filling in. At this rate I may be nowhere near the 50,000 word mark at the end of the month, but I can keep on and finish it up in December.
I can write at work if I want to, lucky me. I work the information desk at the hospital, with full access to the internets. So I can write and write, then just email what I've written to myself and delete it off that computer. I need to spend more time writing at work and then I might finish.

12. Finished! 50,996 words |
|
It was touch and go there for a while, so that made the victory sweeter. I really wasn't "feeling" my new story, and I was ready to abandon it, and NaNo, a couple of weeks ago. But it's grown on me since, and I really think I'm going to finish it. It might not be my next novel that I shop to agents if the one I am shopping right now doesn't go anywhere, but at least I'll have the satisfaction of completing the story (and the satisfaction of having a back catalog ;) ).
One thing I did notice--once I finally got my ass in gear, I wrote a lot faster than the last couple of NaNos, when I was doing my very first novel (that I intended to try to get published, that is).

I stopped writing in the middle of the month, although I still think what I have is worth finishing.

Man, that will take a huge amount of editing to fix. Not sure it's worth it.
