I'm now 11,200 words into my book(started when someone here suggested I just start writing and don't stop) and having a great time with it. I send off finished segments to friends and relations who i know will enjoy them, which encourages me to keep going.
Found a card with a quote I once found and lost a long time ago.

1. Hey, keep it up!

I've always wanted to write. Just the other day I was talking to someone about how everyone I knew had kept some kind of journal at some point in their life. I used to write rather bad poetry and short stories when I was a kid, but as I got older I got way lazy. I realized that if I had saved everything I had posted since I got on the internet in early 1996 I would have had a great journal! Too late now. heh


I have several ideas going through my mind. Here's the titles to the books I never got past a few pages on.

The Baptism ( 20 years before the dang Left Behind series, I had the same idea, only mine was a hell of a lot better and meant to be fiction! heh )

The Holding

Flags and Trumpets

Something's Killing Me

The Spider Killer

All of these were years and years ago. So please KEEP writing! And maybe you can give us a hint to what it's about. ;)

2. Journals

Don't concern yourself about not keeping them. I've done enough for both of us , thousands of words...mostly in pencil...illegible, undated and fairly useless.
It's the "start and don't stop" that matters. Gives the subconcious mind a chance to grab hold and carry on. clear intention as someone said.
You can take any of those titles and just start and see what happens. They all sound great...except some titles may have been used. There seem to be several published writers here that know a lot more than I do.
I had about three ideas and this one insisted on being told...and having a tendancy towards a compulsive obsessive personality , once I started in earnest, the matter of stopping hasn't occurred. Yet. I'm still interested in seeing what will happen next, because i don't know for sure.

What I'm writing is a kids book (don't ask for what age please)for parents and teacher to read to kids, for good readers to read themselves, and espcially for grownups who like to read kid's books. Probably will never get published because doesn't fit any particular category. Fantasy maybe...but not heavy duty stuff.
About a hudgeon. (That doesn't say a lot, does it?)
I'm not ready for criticism...still in first draft with minor editing going on all the time. I enjoy that process too. But if you want to read it I can send you the first segment by e mail or pm, and others if you still want more.Not sure how long a message p m can handle. But you'll know after the first page if you want to continue.

AKA "butt glue" according to a writer friend of mine ... as in, write like your butt is glued to the chair.

3. about to start revising

Have completed 16,352 words of my story and am about to print it up and start revising. Actually looking foward to it.This part of the book may get shorter or it may get longer, but I'm about 1/3 of the way through to where I think the whole book is going. Might end up as a series. (young people/fantasy)
Great escape, and most interesting game in town for me. Getting an idea of why people write.
