Are there any chain pharmacies that have policies

that pharmacists can't withhold prescribed meds or publicly oppose "conscience laws"?

I'm pharmacy shopping and having a bit of trouble.

When I was using birth control pills I had a terrible time getting the little pharmacy down the street to get me any. It didn't occur to me at the time that it might have been political but it probably was. I'd finally get htem but it was like pullling teeth and I missed a couple of days one month because of their stalling and I've never gone back. So they're out.

Wal-mart is nearby but . . . well you know.

Meijer is close but their pharmacy sucks. I don't know if they are opposed to conscience laws or what. This is the one I don't want to use anymore but just because the people who work there aren't very helpful or prompt.

There's a Rite Aid and a Walgreens fairly close by.

Or contact a Planned Parenthood near you to see if they have a list of cooperative pharmacies.

Target is a bit of a drive but a possibility and Planned Parenthood should certainly know who is OK!

For BC pills: is there a woman pharmacist at any of them?

5. I know the lead pharmacist at Wal-Mart is a woman because

she was my favorite pharmacist at Meijer until she got hired by Wal-Mart and left. :cry:

I don't use birth control pills anymore so it isn't an issue at this stage but heaven forbid I sometime need emergency contraception (again - I have used it before) I want to go somewhere I know I'll be safe.

I don't know about most of the others. The lead pharmacist at Meijer is male. The guy who owns the little pharmacy down the street is male. Obviously. I don't know about the other places.

3. Hope you reported your local little pharmacy to the Board of

Registration or whatever licensing board in you state licenses pharmacists.

4. It was a few years ago and I was naive

it didn't occur to me at the time that anyone would be opposed to birth control pills. I didn't understand how Ortho Tri-Cyclen could be so hard to find. I believed that they were just having problems getting it, even at the time I stopped going there. It didn't occur to me that they were probably opposed to birth control pills until recently when the "conscience laws" started coming about.

If I ever need anything potentially controversial again, I should try getting it there just to see what happens.

10. You may want to try non-chain pharmacies.

And question them in person before placing your prescriptions there.

Or, if you have health insurance that covers prescriptions by mail order, do it that way and skip the local middleman.

Note that Walmart and Walgreens allow pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions. I've read on DU that Target does also. A few that don't are Costco, KMart and CVS.

I'll hopefully be switching jobs soon, as well as moving, and will need to find a new pharmacy since right now my prescriptions come via mail order. This is muy helpful.

13. There has to be something wrong with that list

because the Eckerds near my college campus(University of North Texas) refused to give a woman the morning after pill because it was against his beliefs, did I mention she was raped? Needless to say I have never seen a student at that Eckerds

If it's the same situation I read about he was fired for violating company policies.
