No charges for man who blocked truck

Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov declined to file criminal charges against a Bellevue man who lay down in the street in front of a truck covered with anti-abortion images.
Steve Spurgeon, 43, was arrested April 21 and ticketed for obstructing government operations, a misdemeanor. He said he got so tired of Larry Donlan, the director of anti-abortion group Rescue the Heartland, driving a truck plastered with graphic images of aborted fetuses through his neighborhood that he staged his own form of protest.
Truck supporters called police, who ordered Spurgeon several times to get up. He refused and was arrested.
Polikov on Monday said filing charges "would be a waste of court and justice resources." He said he has confidence that Bellevue Police can handle the "sometimes delicate balance in this continuing debate."
However, Polikov cautioned that disturbing the peace and the use of threats or any violence will be vigorously prosecuted.
