Anti-choice handbook, and no, it isn't satire. |
|
It tells anti-choice aliens from outer space how to avoid common mistakes in arguing against choice, like forgetting to show concern for the mother. http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/emailphotos/pdf/Anti-Choice-Handbook.pdf

Of course, whenever possible, I just break the frames they try to build, and then re-build the argument they were trying to present on my own terms.
For example, the "textbook" exchange: teacher: Isn't there a big difference between a tonsil and the unborn? Student: Sure, the unborn has the potential to become a child. But it's a tissue mass at the beginning
The same exchange with me: idiot: isn't there a big difference between a tonsil and the unborn? Me: Nope idiot: *flummoxed moment* But but but but... Me: Even if there were, it's really rather irrelevant. idiot: *stare* Me: And stop calling it "unborn". It's a blastocyst / zygote / embryo / fetus. "Unborn" would imply birth is a foregone conclusion
And then I explain just how many pregnancies simply go nowhere due to the way the entire process works. The egg doesn't implant. The egg is attacked by hte immune system. The pregnancy self-aborts for whatever reason. The embryo dies for whatever reason. Then they get put on the defensive, usually talking about "god's will". If you're feeling really smitefull, quote some old testament about the Israelites smashing babies on rocks as part of the "will of god." others will go back and try to rebuilt their "But it's a miniature person" argument, which just takes us back to step one.

4. a point I never hear addressed other than by myself ... |
|
if it goes to the courts and the courts decide that life begins at conception, then the insurance companies have to pay in full when a woman miscarries ... a full "life" has been lost, due to no fault of the mother carrying the zygote/whatever.
Wonder when they'll enact that ... of course, the insurance companies would fight that, and then they'd have a whole different definition of when a sperm and an egg become a human being, worthy of life insurance coverage.
I can just see, in this day and age of instant communication and "I want it RIGHT NOW!" attitude, a woman tweets her insurance agency ... "I just had sex." ... a few days later, she has her period, as normal ... files a claim for loss of her baby ... insurance company denies coverage, which would be against the law by the RELIGIOUS standards ...

5. Well, you know, once you can fake sincerity, you've got it made. |

I love how they casually describe how all these heroic medical measures can be done to save/protect a woman's life without having to disturb the pregnancy. Oh, and how bed rest for the woman is often the solution. Yeah, like bed rest for how many months is the ideal solution to a problem pregnancy for every woman. I guess the slut just shouldn't have sex in the first place unless she's willing to spend months on her back in bed should she become pregnant and any sort of risk develop along the course of her pregnancy. :sarcasm:

10. bedrest isn't natural. If a woman has to rest in bed for months, perhaps that's nature's way |

"recognizable pregnancy: the state of a woman's body at implantation, this is the standard definition of pregnancy used by Planned Parenthood and birth control manufacturers".
Placental abruption is listed under "not a threat", as is eclampsia.
54% of the women who abort their babies report they were using contraception in the month they got pregnant.
