Change in NPR style manual? |
|
NPR's flagship programs, All Things Considered and Morning Edition, have been using the terms "pro-choice" and "pro-life" for some time with the explanation that those terms were what the groups called themselves. For the past week however, they've been using the terms "abortion rights groups" and "anti-abortion groups". I've not heard the "pro-life" mis-nomer at all. Do they have a new president? A new self esteem?

1. NPR is becoming more RW all the time |
|
Examples #1 and 2: Cokie Roberts and Juan Williams are on their payroll.

5. Again, each pair of terms is fairly well balanced, but the shift is interesting. nt |

2. the proper terms are pro-choice and anti-choice, or woman-hating pro-forced birthers. |
|
the issue is about choice and a woman's right to control her own body.

4. This is a very interesting observation, but from what I did in polling, the two sets |
|
are actually pretty well balanced.
The phrase "pro-abortion" is the real red flag.

8. I don't think so. Pro choice is accurate. "Pro life" is inaccurate propaganda. |
|
they're not "pro-life"; they're simply pro-fetus. they don't give a hoot about adult female life.

6. I, for one, am very glad that they are getting away from the "pro-life" lie. |
|
And I don't care what the haters say, WPR is awesome.

9. I find the new terms more accurate than the political labels - esp. the Anti-Abortion one. |
|
Because for so many "PLs" it's not about "life" it's about taking away a woman's ability to "get away with" having sex without the threat of unwanted childbearing.
