Why are Californians so afraid of Marijuana? |

Looking a gift horse in the mouth.
I was more befuddled than a Libertarian finding federal war bonds in a chest up in his grandpa’s attic. What’s wrong with the voter’s in California? Proposition 19 is down in the polls? 39% of voters are behind it? 50% are opposed to it? The only thing I could surmise is the pollsters are lying or the media is lying. Maybe it’s election fraud? Maybe the voters are just plain dumb? This proposition can pull California out of the economic funk it’s in! It could provide jobs, business opportunities, medicine, money for schools, and fewer prisoners in prisons. You do know our prisons are overcrowded? Why? Because many of them got busted on their 3rd strike puffing a doobie. Do people still believe in the myths about Marijuana? Why is the Feds are so oppose to pot? It’s oblivious why the religious right is opposing to it. You smoke it and you’ll realize that religion is jive. Are the corporations for it? Some are against it. Why? You smoke weed and you’ll never shop at a Wall Mart again. Some pot farmers and medical pot are opposed to it. The pot farmers do not want to be regulated by the state. That understandable! But hey! You got to sacrifice somewhere! Medical pot clinics would lose money because pot will be available at any drug store. Organized crime will lose millions of dollars. Some how, I don’t pity them. Dope dealers have been overcharging customers of marijuana far too long. A state price control is fine with me. Maybe the Federal government is in cahoots with organized crime? You take away the drug war and a lot of cops will lose their jobs! I’m sorry, I just don’t get it?

1. I think it's a case of young people not voting and the brainwashing of old people. |
|
Even those that smoked pot in the sixties bought into the "war on drugs" of the eighties.
That, and many people aren't informed of the benefits (outside of getting high) - including our President.

2. I don't believe the polls. |

Regardless of it's medicinal use, you can vote on the state's benefit.

3. If my memory is correct, prop 19 was ahead in the polls |

by 4 or 5 points, until about the time the Obama administration said they were going to arrest people anyway, and a bunch of local sheriffs and police said they'd follow federal law and ignore our vote. Prop 19 lost ground since then. I haven't seen any TV ads against 19, so I don't know what else could've caused the switch.
Edited to add: That is, if the polls are right, and I don't trust them.

7. I'm against pot being criminalized, but I can't stand people smoking, no matter what it is |

they're smoking. It's disgusting and it's unhealthy.
I say legalize pot but put it into magic brownies etc rather than smoking it.

Ill bet the 50% that were opposed to it smoke weed. Californians aren't afraid of it, its the opposite really. If it were to be legalized the prices would be extremely high and therefore no one would be able to afford to smoke it. People want to keep it cheap.

I find Ca. to be a beautiful yet weird state with people who's views vary from the far right to the far left. There are people I knew from the seventies that where long haired hippies who are now conservative rich and live their lives in complete contrast to what their beleifs in the seventies where. Back then they dispised exactly what they have become. Greedy bisness people who care more about the car they drive the the person homelesss in the street. NikRik
