Only the job of principal Willie Vinson was spared at the school that is slated to become Cloverdale Aerospace Technology Charter Middle School in the fall.
Cloverdale has failed to meet minimum achievement standards on state exams for at least seven years. As a result, the state directed the Little Rock School District to hire an improvement specialist to help the principal this school year.
The specialist, Hendrix College professor James Jennings, pushed for the charter school program as a way to increase instructional time for students.
District officials are taking applications for at least 50 jobs to be filled next fall at the school that currently has 686 students. Current Cloverdale employees can apply for jobs at the campus, but no more than 49 percent of the existing staff can be rehired, according to the school's contract with the state Education Department."
