London: Indian and Chinese students, who lag behind at age five, outshine white British children in exams when they reach age 16, a study has revealed.

The research suggested that peer pressure may influence how well different groups work at their studies.

Pupils who belong to ethnic minorities struggle to grasp English when they start schooling but they catch up with their white British counterparts and even outperform them as their language skills improve.

This is quite interesting and I thought I should share it!

A company that my company recently acquired tried their best to find local talent for programming, but they found almost none, the market was incredibly dry.
They kept hiring local talent but those programmers are just programmers that know a little coding but go to programming website forums asking for help, which delays delivery times.

So they started outsourcing to India, some consultants from India came over here and they were amazed at their level of intelligence and proficiency in programming and code logic and software architecture.

We are so behind!

the vast majority of kids who learn second languages at a young age do outperform their peers in a variety of skills.

As for a local talent search for good programmers, I doubt it would have come up quite as dry were they to offer wages commensurate with skill levels and to consider programmers over the age of 45.

When employers cry about not being able to find workers to fill jobs they have to offer, always ask them what those jobs are paying. That's usually the reason they can't find anyone.

I know too many people who are desperate for work in a variety of fields to believe it's anything but refusal to accept starvation wages that keeps jobs from being filled.

what about indian/english and chinese/english students who have been there for several generations?
how people of all stripes react to poverty, job stresses at home, etc.

there are myriad unanswered -- yet vaguely proposed questions here.

You know, the ones who stole everyone's money. The structural problems of an economic system that rewards banksters is having an effect. For 20 years the best and most stable jobs were in all areas of banking and finance.

I understand what you guys are saying, but understand that's it's a difficult reality to come to accept.

Yes there are alot of older programmers out there, but many, not all, of those programmers are not proficient in .NET or component oriented programming.

Some older programmers are still using Visual Basic 6, or Powerbuilder and some even RPG or Cobol.

They are not able to comprehend .NET

Yes there are some out there who kept with the times and upgraded their skills, the company was ready to pay around 70-80k, but the number of such people were very low and not enough to have a programming dept. here locally.

Guys i've been on the receiving end of getting resumes for jobs posted online for the IT sector, I got alot of trash!

Posting jobs online doesn't work, you get mostly trash, finding good programmers only happens though knowing someone who knows someone often, and that is too time consuming for a business.

The fact is that it's a hard difficult reality to face, but now that we understand it's a reality let's tackle it instead of bickering and saying "no no this is not true", bickering is not a solution!

Everyone complains but no one has a solution!!!!!
