Does Halloween belong in school??? |
|
Just heard bit of a segment on Ed Show; apparently some school district(s) are eliminating/forbidding Halloween being noticed/discussed at school.
One of my daughters' FIRST MATH lessons, in pre-k/nursery school, was SORTING AND CLASSIFYING HALLOWEEN CANDY!
Hell Yes, Halloween belongs in school!!!

5. They're not doing anything at my son's middle school. |
|
The past few years, his elementary school did "Dress as your favorite book character" and they allowed a small party with prepackaged treats (no nuts, chocolate, no homemade goodies - all had to be cellophane or sealed in the container). He went dressed as Houdini in a straightjacket.
In 6th grade, he still goes to aftercare and they're doing a Halloween party for the kids. The counselors go WAY OUT to dress up as well.

I remember that we used to have a big haloween parade at school the afternoon of Halloween. you'd go home, change and come back and do a big circuit around the playground with your class...that way the parents and everyone got to see all the cool costumes and ideas...
religious freaks have made it so unwelcome, for what?
now we have no costumes at school, and our carnival after hours on a friday is called "harvest festival"
such a pain in the butt... it's FUN to dress up and be a freak once a year, sheesh people! why does everything have to be so fucking PC...?

8. Our district still has Halloween parties and parades for elementary. |
|
It's a big community affair with entire families showing up to record it. I think we still have a tape of my son in his grade school Halloween parade!
It's fun for the kids, although some parents opt to take their children home before the festivities begin. It also culminates Red Ribbon Week in our district. The middle school has a charity walk to raise money for Thanksgiving dinners for the Food Bank.

a neighborhood event of the holiday as well. Students, faculty and staff dress in costumes for the day. K-3 have the parade while the 4-6 cheer for them as they pass through the classrooms. Like you school, parents have the option to keep their child home.
It gives the students a chance to learn how to act/behave in while at a festive occasion.
