It's over - we won
Last Sunday, the Bishop stuck a page and a half letter in the bulletin telling us all how wrong it is for New York to legalize gay marriage.

Think about that. The Bishop sent a letter to the Catholics faithful enough to be attending Mass on a hot July Sunday.

It took him a page and a half (single spaced) to explain what's wrong with gay marriage.

20 years ago, the people reading that letter hadn't even heard of gay marriage.

Now it takes him a page and a half to explain how evil it is.

He's lost the laity and he ain't getting them back.

The mopping up operations are going to take a while, and we may lose a few skirmishes here or there, but we've won the war.

Look for a Catholic Church to be holding gay weddings within a few years. It won't be the Roman Catholic Church, but it will be a catholic Church!

1. I agree. New York was the clincher.
No one's even talking about rolling it back here. No one serious, anyway.

The rest of the country will follow suit.

In time.

4. Actually, I am being married in a Catholic (not RC) church
in upstate NY in October. And by a woman priest.
There was a rather large RC congregation that could not wait for Rome to get its act together so weleft the RC church in 1998 and formed a new one, aligned with the Old Catholic Church...which has "authenticity" back to St. Peter, so they can ordain priests. And they don't discriminate by gender.

5. One of my daughters is studying to be ordained. She told her
sister she's looking forward to officiating at her wedding once she finds the love of her life.

6. LAst night I was thinking over all the bad things that are still happening out there.
I don't mean to trivialize the pain so many still face. James Byrd, Jr. and Emmett Till were both lynched, but they lived in different worlds. It is getting better.
