FORT MYERS -
The cheers from New York can be felt all the way down here in Southwest Florida after Sunday marked the first day gay couples could be legally married in the empire state.
Local gay and lesbian couples here say they're eager to make their union official and they're willing to up north to make that happen.
"First of all, it's a lot of joy. I mean, when it was first announced, I said thank God for New York, and people applauded," said Pastor Steve Filizi.
Filizi is that pastor of St. John the Apostle Metropolitan Church in Fort Myers.
