Evangelist Gary DeMar explains how the gay death penalty will work once Christians achieve dominion over the United States and install a theocratic government:

Self-loathing is a powerful emotion, especially when piled upon by years of guilt. I don't think it is any small coincidence that so many of our most outspoken opponents have.. again.. and again.. and again been brought to light to be homosexual themselves (and those are just the ones who have been caught!). Does that make them one of us? No. The key difference between them and us is we embrace who we are, while they loath it. This makes us much better adjusted, much more productive, and generally much more pleasant to be around.

There has been research on this phenomenon. Tons of articles about it on the web. Plenty of examples of homophobic anti GLBT leaders, and Evangelicals who have subscribed to the cultural norms of hyper-masculinity discovering, much to their chagrin, that they sometimes experience homo-erotic feelings. This doesn't’t fit into their carefully constructed self-image. It also conflicts with, say, their religious and societal upbringing, from which they learned that homosexuals are sissies or “not real men.”

This discovery makes them angry. They have a personal crisis, colored by extreme self-loathing. How do they handle it? They lash out at those who appear to be overtly homosexual, or even just effeminate, as these people serve as reminders of what they “really are,” even though they don’t want to admit it. Thus, the reasoning goes, when you see a particularly virulent or nasty homophobe, it is fair to surmise that this person might really be a repressed homosexual.

I do subscribe to the theory that many of our most vehement opponents are of this breed of individual.

The file "American Beauty" is a perfect example of these kinds of individuals that comes to mind. They are dangerous.
