Rob Reiner Making Film About Marriage Equality
Rob Reiner, a longtime and very committed straight ally, has announced plans to make a film about Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
No other details about the film have yet been announced, but Reiner says it "is based a little bit on the court challenge to Proposition 8, which I have been involved in." The actor-turned-director, who was one of the biggest fund-raisers for the legal case to repeal Prop. 8, helped found the American Foundation for Equal Rights. Prop. 8 was found unconstitutional by a federal judge, but his decision is being appealed.
Last month in New York, Reiner took part in the one-night celebrity reading of 8, Dustin Lance Black's stage adaptation of the Prop. 8 transcripts. The proceeds from 8 went to the foundation.
Reiner also told the Reporter he is working "to get Obama re-elected, although I don't know if we can."
