I recently had an incursion at a place I worked at... |
|
and I feel that I was actually singled out for being openly Gay. Come to find out, a couple of other people that had worked there, who were also openly Gay also feel the same way. One individual was fired because he organized something wrong. He was not instructed on how to do it they way they want it, nor was he given a verbal, just fired. The third person came out to his coworkers, only to be "made an example of" as I was told for what they say was laziness.
I have learned that lying is a common practice that this place, and it has cost me a friendship.
I have filed a complaint, a couple actually and one with the ACLU..is there anything else I can do?

1. Document, document, document. |
|
Did I mention Document.
I learned the hard way, if it's not documented it didn't happen.
Stay vigil.

3. Any documentation you can get your hands on copy it save it. |
|
Keep a journal of what transpires, who, what where, when why.

5. I misunderstood, I thought you still worked there. |
|
May I ask what was the reason given for the termination? Also The Journal will still work if for no other reason to keep your facts correct instead of going by memory.

6. I left after I was singled out for petty nonsense... |
|
So instead of remaining in an environment that I felt was no longer welcoming, I quite. I finished my shift however, but during that shift I gave a lot of thought about what transpired and came to the conclusion that I was singled out and made to feel that way on purpose.
After some investigation to other former employees, it seems to have been a trend on their part.

7. What relief are you looking for? |
|
Monetary? Reinstatement? Other?
To be honest Laws are different State by State a lawyer would be the best person to talk to right now.

I will give them time to reply to my inquire regarding my formal charge I sent them and if nothing else, I will just have to let it go. That former friend of mine seems to indicate that some sort of litigation is transpiring right now, I do not think a simple complaint to the companies HQ would yield such an outcome.
Having found out about two other situations just like mine, makes one conclude that some wrong doing is going on on companies part.
If this is a trend, then I find that monetary relief is due.

Employers do this bullshit all the time, I've been keeping constant records of what they've done to me over the last year. If the worst happens you can use that and throw it right back in their face.

after I left I had filed a complaint with corporate, giving multiple examples of managetorial infractions. Since filing that, I was wondering of there was anything that the management could do in retalliation; I am thinking they can not do shit about it.

15. If there is workplace harassment going on usually management doesn't do anything. |
|
If that's the case - in my case management was responsible for a lot of it - your best bet is to go to your State's department of labor. That's what they're there for. They're there to help with this type of stuff. I don't know if it's the same situation in a lot of states but you can file a complaint and their lawyers will handle the rest.
