My lesban's daughter marriage IS more of a "big deal" than |
|
my straight daughter's marriage. For one thing, my lesian daughter finally CAN marry the woman she loves. My straight daughter could marry any man she loved anywhere, any time.
My lesbian daughter wants everything to be "perfect". My son-in-law could care less about perfection or what anybody else thought.
My daughter is planning to pop the question and wants it to be in the perfect place and time. She formally asked the hand of her beloved from her parents. Her mother hugged her and her father just raised his eyebrows, as did MY husband. Straight men seem to do this when lesbians are concerned. They seem to have much more of a problem with gay MEN! Threat to THEM?
My daughter and her beloved will not be married in any church, but my daughter knows a lesbian minister who has said she will marry them. They plan to have her marry them in a ceremony at their reception. My daughter told me today that she is planning to wear a simple gown for the ceremony, but will change to a suit and tie for the reception.
The only family member I anticipate any problem with is my husband's niece. The rest of the family, including my sister-in-law, who has 2 gay out of 4 children, will be ok with it. My husband's niece is a VERY RELIGIOUS Catholic. As my daughter said, if she doesn't want to come, so be it. Her parents, sisters and brother, DEFINITELY WILL be there.
You know, I am very happy about this. My first born will be able to marry who SHE loves in New York. I am trying to move back to New York. New York State is treating BOTH my children as EQUAL citizens.

But can I say that she needs to let go of PERFECT? Best weddings I ever attended were very imperfect. Less stress. She's got to be able to laugh if dogs eat her wedding cake. And get pictures.
There will be disasters. Let them highlight the joy, not dim it.

they love whenever they choose. The way it should always be everywhere.
So very happy for your daughter and all of you, that's wonderful. Hope it's the most beautiful wedding ever. :-)

Although one thing I will say that drives me insane about the anti marriage arguments are like Newt Gringrich cheated on his wife four times. Kim Kardashian threw that huge overbloated spectacle of a wedding and gets divorced not even 3 months later. And these people have the balls to dictate who can and can't get married. The hypocrisy stinks, I say.
