Troy mayor says she regrets using gay slur, asks forgiveness
Troy— Newly elected Mayor Janice Daniels said Monday she regrets using a gay slur in a Facebook post this past summer, a message that has made national headlines over the past couple of days.
Daniels told WXYT-AM (1270) she believes marriage should be between a man and woman, but admitted the post was inappropriate and asked forgiveness from residents.
"I absolutely do regret it, I shouldn't have used such language," she told radio host Charlie Langton. "While I do believe marriage should be between one man and one woman, it was inappropriate to use that language. It's a dictionary word, it's used in a TV show and in other contexts. It was inappropriate and I do apologize.
"It was meant to be a joke, silly, a funny thing."
