I have covered up the American flag in my signature and replaced it with another. |

Until Prop 8 is stuck down or the people rise up and reverse the hate, I will no longer show overt pride in the flag of this nation. Sorry. I just can't do it.
I live in red state hell and have long given up hope that my partner of 22 years and I could get married.
Then the California courts gave us hope.
We even planned a trip next summer to get a marriage license, even knowing that it would be worthless in Oklahoma. But least we'd have someone, somewhere who officially "validated" our partnership.
Work and finances precluded us from rushing out this year. But we held out hope on the good citizens of California to do the right thing. How sad it was for us on election night.
There we were in our powder blue Obama Pride shirts jumping up and down, crying tears of joy that Barack Obama was our president only to then be shedding tears of sorrow when we heard the result on Prop Hate.
I am both proud of and disgusted by this country at the same time.

2. You could still come to Massachusetts. |

I believe we now will marry out-of-state gay couples. Besides, Cape Cod is really nice during the summer.
Hang in there. Prop 8 isn't over. Odds are it will go to the state supreme court.

The 1913 Marriage Residency Law was repealed in July. So there you go. See you next summer. :)

6. There is nothing more futile than fighting |

an idea whose time has come. That idea is the equal application of law to all of us, even women and gays.
If you live long enough, I think you'll see a country where antigay marriage laws are viewed with as much disbelief as anti racially mixed marriage laws are now.
Conservatives will be dragged along, kicking and screaming all the way. However, the time has come and there's not a whole lot they can do about it but try to delay it with stupid things like Proposition 8.

Canada has same-sex marriage and you don't have to be a resident/citizen to qualify. PM me if you would like some info on agencies, etc. Another great site is pridebride.com. They could prove quite helpful. We had a lovely ceremony by the Detroit River with family and close friends there.:grouphug:
