a place for victims, or not |
|
Do progressives actually care about crime victims anymore? Why does it seem like progressives care more about criminals than the victims? I hope I am wrong about this one. Crime is increasing all over the US, what will Democrats do to protect Americans?
I'm a member of an online scooter club. Thousands of members. Every other day practically somebody reports a scooter stolen. These stories are heartbreaking to read, because contrary to public perceptions, scooters are not cheap (a basic Japanese scooter will cost you 1500-2000 dollars new). Some of these people have a scooter as their sole source of transportation. One case was reported of an elderly woman who was thrown from her scooter and beaten, then the scooter was jacked for a joy ride, then wrecked... she didn't have the dough but a St. Louis Harley dealership did a fundraiser to buy her a new one. But stuff like this happens all the time. In some areas it is so expensive to ensure a scooter against theft, it just isn't worth owning theft insurance. Likewise, my family was the victim of a crime several months ago. My brother had his tires slashed; everybody in the neighborhood did. And we live in a nice neighborhood in Florida. It cost him about 240 dollars to buy new tires for his car, that came out of his pocket.

But it would be nice to hear more of how Democrats are going to protect innocent people from crime. Especially since crime is on an upswing after many years of trending downwards.
A pro-abortion, pro-choice stance is the best way to fight crime in the long term and I believe the rising crime rate may be due in part to the increasing restrictions placed on abortions in the last decade or so, as well as attacks on family planning.

4. If you didn't have alot |

the theft out of your pocket of 2000 bucks might hurt. There are other examples though of crime hurting people I could quote, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
Also, another thing is crime disproportionately hurts poor people. They live in neighborhoods more exposude to crime, and they also have less assets in the first place, so when something is stolen it will hurt them more. When it is a violent crime, if they are injured physicly or psychologically, they have less savings to get by, and they often work in physicly and mentally demanding jobs. So I think you could argue that fighting crime is an issue that should be about social justice. Nobody deserves to be a victim of crime. So, people need to balance the desire for mercy for criminals for justice for victims and society.

5. I think that people can |

simultaneously care about the victims of crime and see that the perpetrators are punished appropriately and humanely. It's not an either / or sort of thing, I don't think.
