CNN
reports about the case of Salvador Portillo-Saravia, an illegal immigrant arrested in northern Virginia near DC for raping an 8-year-old girl. In November, when Portillo-Saravia was arrested for public drunkenness, the jail ran his fingerprints through a federal database and got nothing, so they let him go. "Under the federal Secure Communities program, law enforcement agencies run the fingerprints of people they arrest against immigration databases, aiming to find illegal immigrants. The most dangerous are then removed from the country by Immigration and Customs Enforcement."
Justice isn't perfect, and its imperfections can be dangerous.
