Senators and other Democratic politicians aren't going to step aside for a "newbie" who, under close scrutiny, is very average. He won a race he was projected to easily win; the victory got more air time than it was due because it was one of the few bright spots for Democrats on election night.

As his victory celebration received increasing attention as election night wore on, analysts realized (hours before it was released) that the night had gone terribly for the Democratic Party. His victory pales in comparison to some of the victories by more extreme Republicans that night (DeMint, Bunning, Coburn, Thune). They all won tight races, with very well-publicized extremist views.
