Racism and the campaign to oust Kofi Annan

It is my impression that the push to oust United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan is fueled by racial prejudice.

I also suspect that racism is a factor in rightwing animosity towards the UN.

I just think that racism makes it easier for some critics to distrust Annan, and I think that racism may be part of a larger problem of the right's distrust of the UN.

It is obvious to me also, though I also believe that the right-wing believes that no third world countries should have ANY say in regards to their own future, and that plays a big part in their disgust of the UN.

Why is it that we defend the indefensible? Just because the right is for it, doesn't mean we are against it. Kofi Annan has presided over incredible fraud and corruption. He needs to go.

That makes Bush fair game. How does Republican statecraft measure up to values espoused in criticizing Annan? If Annan is being held to a higher standard than is applied to White politicians from the ruling party, that could be understood as an indication of racial prejudice. At any rate, it's pretty hypocritical.

7. Especially when it has been proven

that Kofi's son had absolutely nothng to do with the Food for Oil Scandal.

He was a trainee in the Swiss company before 1998 (wel before te food for oil scandal). He worked in countries as Nigeria in which he had dual nationality. The company had an agreement that he was not able to work for any competing company for a perod of time after his training and so Swiss law demands that he be compensated during that time - and that was the money he received, which was chicken feed over a period of 4 or 5 years! The Swiss company also had no financial gain from the food for oil scandal as they were only a certifying authority not handling any of the cash involved.

This is the Bush payback to Kofi for saying that the war was illegal!!

How long can the world tolerate such an evil small minded man with a lust and thirst for blood, all in the name of his god. How can anyone have any faith in his god who is nothing but pure evil.

If Americans do not do something about getting rid of him soon, I am sure someone else will. He has to be locked away for life with the prison keys thrown away.

13. Lyn Swan a republican?

Lyn Swan a Republican? Why any black would register as a Republican is beyond me. The Republicans have just acknowledged that for the last 40 years they have turned Southern whites against blacks causing untold racial hate, racism and bigotry. We have felt the effects of this by not being hired and when we are it is for menial task. We have been denied the ability to purchase land, though we could in most cases not prove it.

No offer of reparations.
Just: 'We did it, sorry, tuff luck' if you people have suffered monetarily, emotionally or spiritually.

The only reason I feel they (REPUBLICANS) acknowledged what they have done is because now they have the gay marriage issue, knowing this issue will work across the country. This new tactic is just as reprehensible.

Part of US opposition to the UN leadership is that Annan has openly criticised the War on Iraq as "illegal."

Interesting to find that "the United States, itself, (originally )introduced UN Security Council Resolutions 706 and 712 - to ease sanctions on the sale of oil, imposed in response to Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, by allowing Iraq to sell a certain amount of oil and use proceeds to meet the humanitarian needs of its people."

Also interesting that Kojo Annan is being heavily criticised (read: pilloried) for receiving $2500 per month in deferred income from Cotechna while Dick Cheney gets a "pass" from Congress while receiving $250,000 per year from "No-Bid," multi-billion dollar contract winning company, Halliburton!!!

No hypocrisy here, though...
