Anybody else have this problem--tired eyes when driving? |
|
After even about 3 hours, my eyes are so tired.
Anyone else know of any ways to deal with this?

1. Are you talking about something isolated only to your eyes, or a desire to sleep? |

2. Maybe you need your eyes checked... |
|
Any possibility you might have a carbon monoxide leak inside your car?

4. Get off the road at least once each hour. |
|
Stretch your muscles and drink some water. If someone is traveling with you, switch drivers every hour.
My husband can't drive for long stretches without getting sleepy but I love to drive so when we have to go long distances I do most of the driving.

8. is it road hypnosis? yes, i'm subject to road hypnosis after about 3 hours |
|
my eyes are not so much tired as sleepy, if you can grasp the distinction, i feel an irresistible urge to go to sleep, and yes, it has happened after about 3 hours
on long drives by myself i therefore play loud music, altho i otherwise dislike it, or listen to bullshit radio programs just for some noise, altho i hate the radio and the obnoxious bozos that populate it
frequent stops are also good, caffeine good
use caffeine very lightly in mornings only for a couple of weeks before your road trip and then a cup of coffee or even a soda will have much more of a jolt when you feel yourself getting sleepy
when i share the road trips with others, then i let the other driver know in advance that i'm subject to road hypnosis, many times they then decide to take over most/all of the driving, and i pay my share in other ways, such as buying an extra share of the gas or dinner or SOMETHING to express appreciation of their efforts

It sounds logical to me. Pull over, use those moistening drops and let your eyes look at something close, something real close, something far.
Or wait. Maybe it's glare?? Some cars have dashboard glare.

I used to drive at night a LOT. I had a problem with sleepiness until I "discovered" the obvious: You can't go to sleep if you have to pee.
So I drink way too much water when I drive at night. That means that I have to stop about once an hour to empty my bladder. The rest stops give me an opportunity to ease other problems such as tired eyes or a sore butt. All in all, it makes the trip more pleasant because I am only suffering from one problem at a time.

13. sounds like 'remletts' |
|
You're chronically sleep deprived and you are going to soon be experiencing sleep attacks at the three hour interval you are mentioning. What you are feeling normally doesn't happen when you are awake but when one is REM sleep deprived a 'pressure' forms that will eventually allow the REM sleep to intrude upon wakefulness.

14. Halogen lights, blue lights, high suvs whether or not from high suvs & fancy pick ups - all blind |
|
and impair my vision because I hurt and squint and tense up. The halogens and blues on small sporty cars is equally bad whether from the front or back. Makes night driving painful.
Someone pulled something over on the Transportation licensing with those lights designed to not aim at your bumper as is normal, but right in your eyes. Halogens (in and out) create a white light that obscures my vision. I despise the blue lights.
For day - what and when I eat helps against eye hurt. I eat before I get hungry (and avoid waits for service) so that I might get by with a big salad for one meal - vegtables at another - don't burden your digestive system and organs with fat and excess salt and sugar.
