AARP Members: Speak Out Against Simpson, for Social Security
Tell him what you think about the “milk cow” remark.
from: AARP | August 27, 2010
Alan Simpson ignited a firestorm of controversy when he referred to Social Security as a "milk cow" in an Aug. 23, 2010, e-mail to Ashley Carson, executive director of the Older Women's League. Simpson, a former Republican senator from Wyoming, is co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. The bipartisan commission was created by President Barack Obama to identify ways to reduce the federal deficit.
Simpson later issued an apology for his remarks, but not before eliciting a strong reaction from proponents of Social Security, including AARP. (Read AARP's statement.) Many AARP members are also speaking out against Simpson and in support of Social Security. To make your voice heard, dial 1-877-814-7890 to record your own voice message about Simpson's remarks. You can also send a message to President Obama.
