1. Me...I have a very small pension from PA, worked in the Department of Public Welfare, |
|
in a state mental hospital...I never saw many people lining up for that job, and I was the largest contributer to my pension...we have a fund that pools all contributions and invests them, and we are very solvent and have been for decades. The state legislators and elected officials are in the same pension program and are unlikely to cut it. Of course, they get a much higher rate of return and have to stay for fewer years to become vested than we do.
FWIW, PA state employees are forbidden by law from actively participating in politics other than voting and making private donations...you can be fired for even a political sign or bumper sticker. The politicians are free to say anything they want about us, though...and they do.

I worked for the state of NY for about 6 years and then another 20 for my local school district. Everything counted towards my small NY State pension. It's about 18k a year, I doubt if anyone's complaining about mine.

3. If states begin to declare bankruptcy all bets will be off. |
|
Mine is pretty small, too (35 years) but I'm worried very much. Now my new senator, Kirk, is saying he likes the idea of Illinois declaring bankruptcy as a way to get out of our debts. This is so incredible.
Hey, its not my fault the Legislature skipped the payments our Pension Fund was due and now its in hock. We should be suing them!
