Nowadays if you buy anything from Mattel, you are actually buying a kit, that takes several hours of tedious, complex work to assemble into an actual toy - and even then, may or may not work. Thanks Jill Barad!

6. But if it's actually a kit it should be made clear on the box before you buy it.

Not some tiny print on the corner saying "Some assembly required" while in reality it takes you hours of following complex blueprints to actually put the thing together into a working toy. And you waste hours on a birthday or Christmas Day dealing with that. I believe Mattel is very deceptive about this issue.

9. I guess. I grew up with LEGO and building flying model airplanes, so it's all just part of the fun.

Putting together my nephew's toys is my favorite part of Christmas morning.

Some people don't like to cook from scratch either. I don't get it, but it's true.

Before that, you bought tools and raw materials and solved your own problems.

Even toys didn't entertain you, you had to entertain yourself with them.
