Question about Social Security history |
|
Can anyone direct me to comprehensive information (preferably online) about the payroll tax over the years? Ideally, I'd like to see what percentage it was at each stage (I know there was a significant increase in 1983, to prepare for baby boomer retirement, but there were also increases before then); the history of the cap (has it been there since the beginning? at what levels?); and whether the tax has always been a 50-50 split between employer and employee.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks much for the help, DDIQ. Before posting I did check out the "History" section of the SSA website, but somehow I missed the link to that table. It has exactly what I need.
