GOP proposed 4th leg of retirement - continue working - Kohl S 1826 |
|
Senator Kohl in committee discussed the need to create a fourth leg of the retirement security stool. Noting that Social Security, employer pensions, and private savings serve as a three-legged stool, he said that the opportunity to continue working past traditional retirement age for those who need to do so should be promoted as the fourth leg. Senator Kohl is the lead sponsor of S. 1826, the Older Worker Opportunity Act, which provides tax incentives for businesses to hire and retain older workers.

3. A three-legged stool is stable. A four-legged stool is shaky |

I'm already tired... was born right after WWII and grew up believing in The American Dream.
Damn.

... but my friends and I, all late 50s are resigned to dying in the saddle.
i don't trust that the rug won't be pulled out from under me.
luckily i work only parttime and it's super easy and fun. no time clock, lots of potlucks, lots of friendship and support, and when my tasks are done, my time is my own. ( and 99.99% democrats !!)

6. I'm 67, collecting social security and still working. |
|
There is no way I can afford to retire. No one could live on social security alone. I'm trying to get my 401K built up so that I can retire before I die. Plus, my medical plan is much better than I could ever get through Medicare. I have medical, dental and eye care insurance for only $96 a month.

millionaire and billionaire senators know about what the majority of us face. Many of us will have to continue to work past retirement age because we don't have a choice if we want to be able to pay our bills. Most of them have a choice.
