Should work done while serving a prison sentence be considered officially work? |
|
Even if men in prison were paid as much as the agricultural minimum wage, including those men in a calculation of average wages earned by men could tend to lower the estimated size of a wage gap correlated with gender. However, this calculation would not actually increase the amount of money received by women. Therefore, it could be argued that nothing done by a man who is serving a prison sentence should be considered work. To avoid giving the impression of bias against men, it would be natural to also put forward the rule that women in prison, regardless of what they are doing, are not doing any actual work.
