Shocking ad depicts teen giving birth
May 20: A town in England is trying a new and shocking tactic to educate kids about teen pregnancy. .

LONDON - A gory video meant to shock teenagers into avoiding pregnancy by showing a girl giving birth on a school field while ogling children taunt her is capturing plenty of attention from Web users.

Public health officials in the city of Leicester, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of London, produced the video and posted it on social networking and video-sharing sites such as YouTube and Facebook.

Organizers said Wednesday that the video, filmed to look as if it were shot on another student's cell phone, had received more than 250,000 hits.

Wow, not the best way to teach kids...

1. So they're planning to lock pregnant teens out of doors when they go into labor?

3. It looks to me that the maker of the film meant it to be metaphoric for the public embarrassment
and stigma a pregnant teen girl would have to face. I don't think this will help their Pro-Life stance, though.

6. I guess, but then why doesn't the film just show an alien ripping from her belly and devouring her?
Surely that would be metaphoric for something as well.

Meanwhile, all of us are due back on planet Earth.

2. Sounds horrible. What about reaching out to teenage boys for once?
I don't remember a lot of girls wanting to be teen mothers in school, but I remembered a LOT of boys wanting to do the deed that would make them one. Why reach out to the girls?

Devoted dad key to reducing risky teen sex
Moms help, but an involved father has twice the influence, new study finds

When it comes to preventing risky teen sex, there may be no better deterrent than a doting dad.

Teenagers whose fathers are more involved in their lives are less likely to engage in risky sexual activities such as unprotected intercourse, according to a new study.

The more attentive the dad — and the more he knows about his teenage child's friends — the bigger the impact on the teen's sexual behavior, the researchers found. While an involved mother can also help stave off a teen’s sexual activity, dads have twice the influence

5. Oh there you go, that's really interesting.
I think the right approach has to come from affecting the whole social structure teens find themselves in, including Dad. This whole "personal responsibility" conservative thinking that targets teen girls exclusively for their pregnancies (and women generally, as with blaming them exclusively for abortions) is just a way to shift responsibility away from themselves.

7. I totally agree
The responsibility is rested almost solely on the woman's shoulders, yet there are those who think that women should have no choice in the matter when it comes to their own reproduction.
