Did anyone attend the March for Women's Lives in April 2004? |
|
I went to the March in D.C. in April 2004. Just wondering if anyone else out there went too, and if you ever heard about an official count?
There were counters out there taking name/address/signature and then putting a green sticker on the person counted. Seemed like a pretty efficient counting system - there were counters everywhere. I got approached at least six more times after I'd already signed, but then showed them my sticker to let them know that I'd been counted.
The Parks police estimate was 800,000. The unofficial count immediately after the march, by the organizers, was 1.15 million. What I'd like to find out is, did they actually enter and verify all that data and come up with a finalized count? Anyone know?

Here's a photo of the mall filled with marchers - young women, old women, gay men, lesbians, bikers, old men, mothers with kids, punks... EVERYONE WAS THERE! It was incredible.

Along with my three coven sisters and one spouse. Not sure of an official count though.

4. I was there....got counted. I never heard |
|
of a 'final count.' I heard the 1.15 million as you did. I am sure it was over a million. It was a great day! All of the signs that people had made were so entertaining and creative. I chanted until I was hoarse.
It was so great to be around so many who despise W and his neocon buddies...I live in a Red area, so I really enjoy getting out and being with my sisters who 'get it.'

5. I believe 1.15 million |
|
Just wondered if they ever actually entered all that data and did any research on it like what was the total count, which states did people come from, where else in the world did people come from. It's probably out there somewhere, otherwise what a waste.

6. I did. I heard/read over 700K. It was huge. |
|
That's why people saying that the last anti-war march was 700K are out of their minds. BIG difference.
I think only the Million Man March was bigger.
I had a great time.

I was there with the Pagan Drum Corps (a.k.a. Chesapeake Pagan Community). I don't know the final count, but there were at least 800,000 there.
