In light of Scotus decision, I'd like to propose new DU group... |
|
...Pro-choice!
I think the Choice forum is alright, but in some cases it's bullshit. I've gone there too many times wanting to discuss a personal challenge based on Pro-choice ethics, and was shouted down by trolls and forced birthers.
I want a forum like feminism where I know I can discuss issues related to being PRO-CHOICE without hearing all the baloney from the forced birthers and anti-choice folks. I'm guessing that sometimes the opposing view is allowed in Choice, because it's a "discussion forum" as opposed to an actual group with a mission statement, etc. (so it's harder to kick out the trolls and dissenting opinions).
In light of the SCOTUS decision, I believe we pro-choicers need a place where we can discuss these things--safely and without interruption from disruptors, or the clueless. Where we can post action alerts, discuss issues related to pro-choice advocacy, share ideas, stories, etc.
If you would be interested in such a group, please state your interest here.
I'll be cross-posting this in Feminism and choice in an attempt to gauge interest.
Thanks! :hi:

Dunno how much time I'd spend there, but if we need such a forum, I'm all for it. Nobody messes with my body or the bodies of my women friends. It would be nice to talk about important women's health issues without *well-intentioned* ( male??? young???) naysayers trying to score humanitarian brownie points by shoving their canned talking points down our throats. Those WITHOUT WOMBS need to either support us in our descisions or simply walk away from the conversation. If they feel that strongly about making women conform to their opinions, they should consider changing forums. Democrats shouldn't oppress women. That's what republics are for.
I worked quite hard to get a tubal ligation after my second pregnancy. I had to stand up to docs who wanted to second and third-guess my wishes. "What if you decide you want more children?" they whined. Thank the gods I stood up and am out of the pregnancy game.

18. The worst thing I've ever heard a woman told about a tubal |
|
She said her doctor told her: What if you remarry and HE wants a child? :wow:
I would have been tempted to shove his stethoscope so far up his ass.......:grr:

 I hear you! Your way with words,...you crack me up!
A relative's friend/co-worker wanted a tubal ligation in the late 70's. It was completely unheard of back then, unless a woman had some sort of health reason and already had children.
She had a prior marriage and had re-married and knew she didn't want children. The doctors apparently put her through all kinds of hell about it. She had to go in WITH her husband. HE HAD TO sign something saying HE didn't want kids, and then they gave it to her. :eyes:

6. Jeez, I don't know; is DU allowed to create groups based on illegal concepts? |
|
Like choice, for instance? :sarcasm:
Anyway, it sounds like a great idea to me.

I'm so happy to see your name here! :hi:
Check the feminism forum later today (or tomorrow) as I'll post something there so we can try to work out what our mission statement should consist of. I really want it to be representative of all pro-choicers but specific enough so anti-choicers know "don't go there." ;)

:hi:
I'm past the age where this is a personal concern for me but choice is so closely tied to women's independence and equality, how could I not be part of a group like this? We do need a place where we don't have to debate the merits of choice but rather where we can gather ideas and brainstorm how to fight for our rights and the rights of the young women who this so intimately affects.
Thanks so much for thinking of this. Way to go.
