Good news for women in Washington State...... |
|
The state pharmacy board has ruled that all prescriptions must be filled, and that pharmacists may not cherry pick which parts of their job they will do based on their personal moral values. http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=webplanb26&date=20070726&query=pharmacy+board That's the good news. The bad news is that a suit was immediately filed against the state because of the ruling. http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=pharmacists27m&date=20070727&query=pharmacy+board

1. I hope that the verdict is sustained on appeal |
|
Look, a person chooses to become a pharmacist--it isn't forced upon them! They know what the job entails, and if their religious beliefs get in the way of performing their job, maybe they should try another profession. After all, do you see any Christian Scientists who are MDs?

3. Yes, ruling in favor of these "moral" pharmacists..... |
|
would open up a whole can of worms in terms of people declaring parts of their jobs morally repugnant, and refusing to perform those parts. Any sane lawmaker would see that.
The people suing the state over this ruling represent only one pharmacy in Olympia, WA, but I get the feeling they are getting a lot of money from whoever is pushing this idea nationwide that selling birth control to grown women is somehow immoral.
But if the creeps win I plan on declaring ALL of my job morally objectionable, but demanding that I still get paid, because, according to the creeps, the issue is that people should not have to choose between earning a living and honoring their moral values. ;)
