CINNAMINSON — The township has followed several other municipalities in filing a lawsuit against the state Council on Affordable Housing in addition to having joined the statewide lawsuit.
Mayor William "Ben" Young said Cinnaminson objects to new affordable housing rules that would require it to build more than 260 additional units because it already had been deemed "in substantial compliance" and has no room left to build.
Young called the latest figure an "arbitrary target" and said the township is unable to meet it.
Medford and Mount Laurel already have filed independent lawsuits against the housing council for similar reasons. They and other municipalities also had joined the New Jersey League of Municipalities lawsuit against the state council. All lawsuits have been filed with the Appellate Division of New Jersey Superior Court in Trenton.
