I GOT RUNNING WATER!

some may know of how I got into this situation of living in a trailer with no hydro, running water or decent facilities

if you are curious PM me - that's not the point of my post

HOW I got running water is . . .

I put a small water tank on the roof of the trailer, I live in Northern Ontario, so I take it off for the winter.

TODAY WAS THE DAY that I put it back up, filled it up with water from town, takes about 250 litres to fill the tank on the roof, the tanks inside enough to pressurize the system inside so my taps work

It's quite an ordeal to go through the winter with dragging buckets of water inside

so when I get "RUNNING" water coming out of my taps inside my trailer;

it's a luxury to me.

Poverty can make you appreciate the simplest things sometimes . .

hope I remember all this when I'm out of this situation, and can help others to cope as well as I have

That's what i said to my daughters who like the half hour showers.
My girlfriend used to live outside Tombstone and had to haul water. I helped her several times. It's a lot of work.

Hydro in Canada is a reference to power as a majority of their power comes from hydro plants. It's not a weird double reference to their water troubles.

Wood-stove/cook-stove - FREE

4000 Watt generator - FREE

Slightly outdated food from small store in town (avg $50-$100/month) - FREE

Use of gas station garage in town to keep my vehicle in repair in exchange for cleaning and minor repairs.

And a whole lot more.

TY to whatever gods/spirits gave me the training through my younger years to handle the adversities in my older years.

I usually have around 100 litres of water available during the winter

recent rains have increased my reserves to over 400 litres

and still increasing

I made it through last winter with a disabled arm, shoveling a driveway over 100 feet long

arm is almost healed, not in strength, but totally usable for short periods.

"luck" would get me a million dollar Reader's Digest thing . .

I'll get by on stubbornness and skill/innovation.

Both have been well honed through my last few years experiences.

7. Do you have a solar water heater on your trailer?

We had one on the top of ours. It was a wooden box with a clear plastic cover, and a spray-painted black water hose inside. Cold water goes in, steaming hot water came out.

Of course, we were in the desert, so lots of sun.

but to answer you question,

no

I don't have a solar water heater - mainly because I don't intend to be here long.

Once I have a permanent dwelling, I intend to do just that - a neighbor of mine had something like that to heat his swimming pool - right here in Northern Ontario

and you could burn yourself if you were right beside the output pipe

and it was just a bunch of black pipes inside a 2 foot square "greenhouse" wrapped around an old hydro coil.

Old logging roads lead to many private campable spots

I have had relatives in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Corbeil, North Bay and so on - almost all my siblings (5 of them) lived in this area at one time or another since the mid 70's

I am not real REAL north

it's only a couple of hundred miles north of Toronto.

I now live near the junction of the Ottawa and Mattawa rivers - Quebec is visible to the East side of the Ottawa river.

Lots of beautiful spots up here

Although it's not enjoyable at times... there is a synthetic kind of existence that comes with material possessions... To the point where you begin living for what you have, instead of family and friends.
