2. So sad and so true.

In a city near me (Sarasota) they've removed all the benches downtown because the shopkeepers objected to the homeless using them. This an affluent -- actually rich -- city (Republican through and through) and a very upscale shopping/dining area. They don't want the 'blight' of homeless riff-raff affecting their retail traffic, but also won't contribute to alternatives. Just get 'em out of sight.
