| Buddhist scriptures denouce butchers, factory farms & others of their ilk |
|
I happened to be perusing a book of Buddhist scriptures and came across this passage from the Pancagatidipani (Illumination of the Five Realms of Existence). A work in Pali of unknown date and authorship but perhaps written in Cambodia in the fourteenth century.
Whoever pitilessly kills animals, but gives (them) to be eaten (by others) inevitably, after death, finds his various kinds of food (as) a rakkhasa (flesh-eating demon).
From Buddhist Scriptures Pg. 12, Edited by Donald Lopez Jr., Published by Penguin Classics
It appears the Buddhists, even centuries ago, were animal-rights activists.
