And that asshole is a sick son of a bitch. Nothing could ever be said of him that would ever make me think any differently.

I am not ashamed to admit that I had a long crying jag after reading that. But it's important for people to understand who suffers in these cases.

Sometimes all we can to is to bear witness. It's not anywhere near enough, but it's a start and we can't do anything else until we do that. At least, that's what I tell myself on days like today.

Good story, but those that need to read it won't ever see it or care.

| 13. I worry about that sometimes. |

I think it's easy and tempting to waste time on the heard-hearted instead of waking up the caring but unaware. As a movement, I think we need to focus on what in political terms is the "persuadable middle." Most people who come to veganism and to AR are just everyday people who finally saw thier role in exploitation and wanted no part of it.

| 11. And yet people insist that we just don't respect animals |
|
for some reason because we don't eat them? People tell us that we just don't understand?
People make me sick.

| 15. Well, I don't understand. |
|
I don't understand how people can treat living, feeling, suffering beings as resources to exploit, as unfeeling automatons. I don't know how somebody can look a cow in her warm expressive eyes, smell the hay on her breath and place a captive bolt pistol between her brows. If that's what it takes to "get it" I'm grateful I don't.
