| Goofy nighttime interlude with crow |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-25-06 01:51 AM by tofunut
My teeny, tiny apartment has a teeny, tiny deck. (Whew, too much time reading with elementary-school kids?) Three of us--husband, dog & me--were hanging out there this evening.
This teeny, tiny deck backs up to a greenspace and a small stadium used by local schools for track events and football (though it's been closed for renovation this season). There are large metal cage-like devices that are used to put over the pole-vault mats; the mats have been put away since the construction began, but the cage things are still there.
So, there we were, watching the night, and we see that there is something moving under one of those cages. A crow. Senor crow was pacing, trying to fly and find a way out of the cage.
Huh. Why would a crow be out at ten o'clock at night? We realize that it's likely been trapped in there all evening.
So, okay, down the stairs we all go. Moby (the pooch) was pretty excited to see that we were heading outside of the back fence (*eeeeee* going outside the backyard late at night *eeeee*) and we got over to the stadium. Sweet husband scaled the fence and headed over to the mat-cage, lifted up just the smallest bit, and off flew Senor crow.
Moby danced with crazy joy as husband came back over the fence, and then managed to tangle his legs in his leash, letting out a shriek that probably convinced the entire building that we were out there beating that poor dog.
Now they're asleep, intrepid crow-saver and dog who cried wolf. I like my little family a lot tonight.
