| I'm completely depressed. My city is going to cut down all the trees |

along my street.
The Buddha was right. Life is suffering.

| 1. Why is the city doing that? |
|
If you own your home, you might have issue with them over property values declining.

| 2. They're doing a major overhaul of the street, it's a major traffic artery. |
|
*sigh*
The lady DH & I met with at the city went over all the elements, enlarged storm drains, ADA compliant sidewalks, traffic control, safety, bike lanes, medians....It all means the street needs to be widened by 20 feet, which means all the trees have to come down.
God/dess, it's going to be terrible.
Since it's a major street and they are going to "landscape" as part of the project, I doubt we would be able to claim material damage.

| 3. So they're taking 10 feet of your frontage, yes? |
|
I'm assuming 20 feet is 10 feet on either side, yes? So, not knowing your state, it would appear that they'll need your 10 feet (which they'll claim is theirs anyway) but then they'll need to go an additional x number of feet for electric and utility easements. Seems either way, you're losing a number of feet of dirt. Your lot is now smaller. I'd make them buy it from me, either privately or via Eminent Domain.

| 4. Yes and no. They aren't taking more than they have already purchased. |

At least, that's what we were told.
See, we're in a townhome community, and there's a large open area (with trees) in front of the complex. According to the city, they are only going to be constructing along the front 10 feet, a right-of-way that was purchased many years ago.
Of course, our worthless HOA didn't even bother to tell us about any of this, we found out about the whole thing quite by accident.
On edit: Our fellow residents are of no help. Get this, all the people I know that live here actually HATE the trees, and have been asking the property management company to cut them down for years! So I'm sure they will be GLAD to hear that the city will be doing it at no cost to them.

| 5. They have destroyed a beautiful intersection near where I live. |
|
It is a little ways out of town. It is an old farm house property which had a dozen or so huge old cottonwood trees along the road side. They chopped all of them down so they could expand the intersection with additonal turn lanes. :eyes: It was quite a sad sight the day they were actually copping them down.

| 7. I swear when I see trees being cut down, for me it's like watching someone |
|
be dismembered.
This project will result in about 50 trees being slaughtered. That's how I see it.

| 6. We are losing about 30 acres of gorgeous grass and trees |
|
to another "bigbox" store. Everyone is just sick about it. It is just the most beautiful piece of land.
I don't know why the city couldn't have bought that land and made a park out of it.

| 8. Nurseries and greenhouses |
|
might dig them out and resell them. Can you call the city and see if there is a way to salvage the trees. It's nonsense if they say they can't because people want mature trees planted in front of their new houses.
