| Sad observation after lunch today... |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-25-06 10:55 PM by Ilsa
My husband and I went to eat a lunch counter operated by a wonderful local chef. She makes lots of fresh, light foods, reasonably priced and appropriate portions. I had a caprese wrap - spinach wrap, basil, spring greens, buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes, and sauteed, carmelized onions with a pesto mayo. Delish! My husband had a light southwestern chicken wrap. My husband hasn't gone veg, but he appreciates the value of this diet/way of life. He is eating more healthy foods on a day to day basis, and splurges occasionally with something a little richer.
We passed a Ryan's Steahouse around 12:30. They have multiple food bars (all you can eat) and steak, shrimp, etc to order. There was an ambulance out front, lights on. They must have been called for either a choking accident or, as my husband said, someone who didn't "skimp on the gravy"; IOW, a heart attack. It's a small city, and I bet I can find out what happened. I hope they are okay.
I'm so glad my diet doesn't make me feel this way. And my cholesterol was 159, superb HDL/LDL ratio.

| 1. That certainly is life here in Kansas City |
|
Beef capital of the world, I think. All the places that serve Homestyle cooking seem to do really well - or steak houses - or barbecue.
Other places don't seem to stay in business very long.

| 2. NPR had a report on yesterday about the "All you can eat" |
|
buffets and how people really do overeat at them. They also said that people with candy on their desk versus in the next room eat more of the pieces of candy, etc.
I think anyone on a weight-watching program should stay away from AYCE buffets.

| 4. We have lots of all you can eat places - but you aren't allowed to |
|
carry any out.
People here just eat an incredible amount of food. It always amazes me.

| 3. We have a favorite Sunday morning place |
|
& we pass a Country Buffet on our way there. The line is always out the building & snakes down the sidewalk. All you can eat bacon, ham, sausage, & eggs. A few greasy spuds, some plastic cheese sauce & you've got a meal!
I know people who eat this quality of food most of the time.

| 5. Oh, yea. That kind of food is normal for here. |
|
It's what most people grew up on.

| 6. Every look in people's carts at the grocery store? |
|
It's amazing the amount of processed and fat laden foods that people buy.

the first to warn of the dangers of following a vegetarian or vegan diet.

It is almost to the point (especially in the south...) where the thin or proportionate figures are the exception.
