| A question about gophers... |
|
Is there a humane way of getting rid of gophers. My friend was bit by one today because she was trying to get one of those stupid traps out of a gopher hole in a dog park. Yes, that's right, some idiot placed traps in holes throughout a dog park, you know, where there are dogs running around digging at the holes.
Anyway, my friend pulled out the trap and there was a gopher trapped in it. She tried to free the gopher and the poor animal bit her. She finally got it free, but it died anyway.
Anybody here know of a way to humanely trap gophers so that we can release them somewhere else? The idea is so that the idiots will quit putting the vicious traps in. They are dangerous for the dogs and small children too!

| 1. Some pest removal people can vacuum them out of their burrows and trap them |
|
I don't know how humane that is, but at least it's not a risk to the dogs as well.

| 2. Someone else suggested rescuing a couple of feral cats |
|
and letting them live at the park...feed them, spay/neuter them and they will keep the gophers away. However, this is a dog park and cats hanging around could cause chaos.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into the "vacuum" thing.

| 3. Unless your on your own private property, I would check with your |
|
local municipality regarding policy on relocation. Re-locating prairie dogs is a very serious issue in my area. There are only a few authorized areas to relocate the animals.
What they usually do here is pour soapy water down the hole. The gophers run to other holes to exit & someone nabs them.
