| Maybe someone can assist me on a question |
|
I recently purchased from Whole Foods some Vegan Popcorn Nuggets..the same base protein as in their General Tso's chicken.
Do you know of anything commercial available that is the exact same thing as this stuff? Whole Foods indicates it is off site developed/produced in an off site kitchen for them.
Ideas? I could not believe it was not chicken. Even fooled the soy hating hubs. The texture is the thing that is the fooler, it seems to have a type of faux meat protein strand to it.
I am addicted already, and Whole Foods is a bit of a drive for me, so am looking maybe online for this? It is not seitan, as the ingredients list is Non GMO soybean protein, wheat protein condensed, water, soybean oil, , sea salt, dry mushroom powder, vegetable extract, rock sugar, wheat syrup, white and red pepper, sesame seed oil.
I have googled around and am not having much luck.
Helpeth? And thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide...I am certainly willing to purchase and freeze, as Whole Foods says this freezes well, but would rather find another source if possible. I would also try mixing this up if there is a recipe and online availability of the ingredients.
:)

| 3. The chef in their deli told me they have had vegans refuse to eat it |
|
because they do not believe it is not chicken.
Find them in the same area they package up the soups, hummus, etc coller to go near the deli, or ask for them.
Let me know what you think.

| 2. A lot of faux meat recipes blend soy and wheat gluten |
|
There really aren't any ingredients there that won't work for the home cook, so you could work out a recipe for something similar yourself, as long as you kneed really well the wheat gluten will get that more fiberous meat like texture (if you don't, it will be spongy and gross- kneed your seitan folks.)
I haven't tried this particular recipe (is it in frozen foods or is it a deli item?) but if I can find it at our Whole Paycheck I'll try to point you toward something similar.

| 4. It is prepackaged and flavored |
|
like all little chicken bites, in the same section they keep the soups that are packaged and ready to go, the hummus, the sandwiches to go, salads to go, etc. The deli folks know exactly what it is...it is the same base as for their deli case General Tso's
So the secret it to knead the dickens out of it....I will Google in a new direction!
Thanks LM :)
