This was from an article on Vegan faces of the Bay Area in the online SF Chron and just had to share it:

Colleen Patrick-Goudreau with Linus the steer. Patrick-Goudreau says: "Six years ago, a dairy farmer brought one of his pregnant cows to a veterinarian because she was having trouble giving birth, and to lose one of your "breeders" is a devastating blow to any rancher. When a male calf was born to his dairy cow, he told the vet to kill him on the spot. After all, males have no use in an industry that exploits the female reproductive system to stimulate and take her milk. Luckily, a compassionate person intervened, and Linus was brought to Farm Sanctuary just a few days young, where I had the immense pleasure of bottle-feeding him and getting to know him in his first few weeks of life. Six years later, he's still a big baby - he just doesn't know he's 1,000 pounds. This particular photo captures me scratching his chin and him "lying" on my lap. I found "his spot" when he was just a baby, and over these six years, whenever I see him, we immediately fall into this same position."
