| I'd still be questioning this, even if I was still an omnivore. |

Or were still an omnivore. That part of grammar always did confuse me. :)
From the TV in the next room, I heard a commercial featuring Jim-Bob-Bill-whateverhisnameis Perdue talking about how his chickens are fed a vegetarian diet. I don't remember the rest of his blather, but it got me to thinking.
Perhaps I'm just a simpleton, but if a vegetarian diet is good enough for the chicken, why isn't it good enough for the consumer? I mean, why not remove the chickens from the equation?
And another thing -- if the Perdue chickens are healthier, or tastier, or whatever they are supposed to be because of their vegetarian diet -- then what are the other chicken farmers feeding to their birds?
If I were not already a vegetarian, I would certainly be thinking about becoming one, thanks to Mr. Perdue! ;)

| 2. Not to confuse the question with more facts |
|
but I have read that in fact a healthy more natural and sustainable diet for chickens would include bugs and worms so that wouldn't be vegetarian.

Bugs are a natural part of their diet.

| 7. I think that whole "vegetarian diet" -- |
|
came about because the mega producters were feeding ground up chickens to their chickens. :puke: The few times a year I get eggs I will seek out veg diet eggs if I don't have access to quality organic eggs.

| 4. question for meat eaters...Oh |
|
none here but when I hear someone say we need meat (protein) for strength... I think of the saying "Strong as a Bull" or Ox... they are vegetarians...
as are Elephants, as are many insects whom are very strong for their size, as are...
(but... having raised many chickens, I can say that they can and will eat meat)

| 5. So it has been mentioned a few times now |
|
that chickens should not even be vegetarians. Shouldn't Mr. Perdue know this? After all, his family has been in the business a while.
If Perdue chickens are really fed a vegetarian diet, then Mr. Perdue isn't even treating his chickens properly, despite anthropomorphizing them in ads, and even giving them first names.
