| Product Review: BBQ Pull Shreds from Gardein |
|
This is the first Gardein product I've tried that I'm not fully in love with.
The box says, 'Bold BBQ sauce!' I thought it was kind of light. Not as sassy as I expected it to be. That said, it was still a decent meal. Paul and I each got a decent sandwich out of it. It has a whopping 19 grams of protein in it. Not bad for a little sandwich!
For a quick meal (2.5 minutes in the microwave) I give it a thumbs up. If, however, you have the time and have a favorite BBQ sauce you might be better served creating your own unique meal.

| 1. I prefer the Riblets to this product. |
|
I tried this a while ago (I hope to try every Gardein product in time). Like you, I thought the sauce was a lot of meh. The "meat" part was good, but all told it wasn't very much value for money. I also got two "less stuffed than I'd have cared for" sandwiches out of the package. I found that Riblets were a far better product for around half as much money.

| 2. I had to "doctor it up " with some real BBQ sauce. |
|
The stuff they used was like food coloring, liquid smoke and mediocre sugar-free catsup. I used some Open Pit. Acceptable. NOT AWESOME.
Thus far, no pre-pack BBQ has been as good as my homemade BBQ tofu...and my bbq'fu sucks.
Also, some variety would be nice. KC-style tomato-based BBQ sauce (aka. rib sauce) doesn't make acceptable BBQ, it stands to reason it'd make fairly-poor quality vegetarian BBQ as well. Where are our Southern-style mustard and/or cider vinegar-based sauces?
