File naming/copying questions on my Mac |
|
I'm trying to use iPhoto and it does not seem very user-friendly to me. How does one rename a file in my iPhoto library? I clicked on every menu item and got no options to edit the name of a file? Or, to rename, or similar. When I download from the camera, they are like IMG_0811.JPG. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to rename the file to something like "Florida Trip Jan 2006 1.JPG" or something similar where I can actually remember what is on the picture. I see Duplicate or Make Alias, but Make Alias seems to be more of a shortcut, and not something you can email to somebody. I also cannot figure out how to view thumbnails versions of the picture when trying to attach to an email. The only way around this seems to be to copy the files I want to email in my iPhoto library to my desktop and then finding them on my desktop and attaching them to an email. It seems like a lot of work for what should be a simple task.
Thanks

When iPhoto is open, look in the bottom left hand corner. You should see a frame that shows details such as picture name and size. Simply click on the name and type a new one.

Also - how does one copy 4 pictures to one page so they can all be printed on the same page?

3. Select the four pictures you want to print |
|
Then go to File > Print. When you select print you will be able to change some fields. One is called Stlye. If you choose Standard Prints you will be able to print 4 3X5 photos on a page.

4. Style was not one of the options I had |
|
I selected the 4 files and did File Print and got a Preview screen where only 1 pic was highlighted and there were no options for Style (or anything similar that would then give me the option to do Standard Prints)
This is a 10 month old iMac that was brand new at the time.

5. The new name doesn't stay though |
|
If I copy the file to somewhere else, the NEW name does not stay with the file. I can easily rename is "FloridaTripJan2006", as I had done before. But, when I copy the file elsewhere, the new name does not stay with the file.

6. I've been working with OSX for a couple years now |
|
And I've never been a big fan of Iphoto. I do think I used the rename function the way it was described to you and it worked. Also you can drill down to the Iphoto library somewhat easily. You just half to be somewhat diligent and it should become apparent to you. I'm not at my Mac now or I would give you the path. The bigger problem to me is how unintuitive the interface to edit pics is. I mean the MS Office image editing SW is 100x easier. WTF?

7. You need to use the "Export" |
|
command. Shift-Command-E
Select the photo, and then use the command - either from the File menu or the keyboard command - You'll get an "Export Photo" box up. It gives you the option to export the file using the file name, the title or the album name. It also gives you several other options involving Web Pages, Quick time, Aspect ratio, and types.

Not very intuititive or friendly- especially since I had renamed the file in the iPhoto library & then had to rename it again when I exported it.

If you rename in iPhoto the export function gives you the option of exporting with the title or filename. The dialog box with the radio buttons gives you that option.
