Question about reinstalling after erasing HD |
|
I have an eMac from 1995 that I'm giving to a friend tomorrow.. From the disk utilities, I completely erased the hard drive (the 7 times option). Now if I turn on the computer I have a flashing North American continent icon followed by a flashing finder icon and then a flashing question mark. Now what? After starting the computer, should the new owner insert and install the 2 original eMac Install and Restore disks (Panther) followed by the Tiger disk or what? The first disk will only start if I hold C down after the "music." Is this the way to start the complete reinstall? I'm lost. Help.

1. Sorry for late response - Superduper Tuesday is a bad day to post this ;) |

If you have a full install dvd, hold down the C key, and the installer should pop right up - it takes a while to boot from it, but it should take you to the initial install screen.
If that doesn't work, or you only have a tiger "upgrade" disk, you might have to do an incremental restore then install. But that is a last resort.
Hope that helps - let us know.

The c thing will probably work - if the new owner isn't intimidated by the crunching and clacking noises.
